Behind Tekorá

The Ranch

A lifelong Brazilian cattleman. An American expat looking for trustworthy food. A ranch in Paraguay.

Two founders, one table

It started with a meal

Tekorá exists because of a conversation between a rancher and an expatriate who couldn't find the kind of meat he wanted to feed his family. That conversation became a partnership, and the partnership became a ranch.

The rancher

Jonas

Lifelong Brazilian cattleman. Third generation on the land, specializing in grass-fed production across decades of practical experience in South American ranching. Knows the animals, the pasture, the climate, the economics of low-input cattle, at a level that takes a lifetime to acquire. Runs the day-to-day operation.

The expatriate

Jacob

American expatriate who moved to Paraguay searching for a life with trustworthy food, open space, and distance from the industrial food system. A father first, a brand operator second. Brings the outside perspective, what a food-conscious expat family actually needs to trust a meat brand, and handles communication for Tekorá.

Why we partnered

The Brazilian rancher has the practice. The American expat has the audience. Neither of us could run this brand alone. The rancher's standards for how cattle should be raised turned out to be exactly the standards the expat was looking for, and couldn't find at any price in his new country. We decided to stop explaining it to people one at a time and build a brand that explains it automatically.

"We're not trying to be the cheapest. We're trying to be the one you trust."

Our philosophy

Grass-fed isn't a marketing term for us. It's how cattle are supposed to eat. Every shortcut the industrial system introduced, feedlot, hormones, routine antibiotics, grain finishing, exists to produce cheaper meat faster, not better meat.

If you've read this far, you probably understand why those aren't the same thing.
